plan your visit * performance tips
If you are a first-time visitor to the ShortGrass Music Festival it may help to know a bit about what to expect before you go. Here are some of the more common questions our first-time patrons ask and, more importantly, the answers.
What should I wear?
All concerts are informal, including the Sunday afternoon matinee at the church. You may certainly dress up if you like, and remember to wear your dancing shoes Saturday night at the Colfax Tavern. Because it will be early autumn in the high country, expect the evenings to be chilly— bring a sweater or light jacket.
When should I arrive before a concert?
Plan to arrive ahead of time, especially if you wish to purchase your tickets at the door. This will also give you plenty of time to park, enjoy the evening and find your seat.
What happens if I arrive late?
If you arrive late for the Friday evening or Sunday afternoon concert, you might be asked to wait by the entrance until the song or movement is over before being seated. There is no being late for Saturday, just show up when you’re ready to dance.
When should I clap?
Out of courtesy to the musicians, during a classical concert please applaud only after a work is complete and the musician has lowered his hands.
May I bring my wireless phone or pager?
All electronic and mechanical devices, including pagers, cellular phones and wristwatch alarms, must be turned off before entering the hall. If you need to be reached in an emergency, please advise an usher and you will be located.
May I take pictures?
Cameras or recording devices are not allowed in performances.
Can children attend a ShortGrass Music Festival concert?
Children are welcome to attend the Friday evening and Sunday afternoon concerts if they can sit quietly for an hour or so. Attendance at the Saturday dance at Colfax Tavern, however, is restricted to those that are 21 years of age or older.
What handicapped facilities are available?
All facilities are equipped with handicapped entrances. Please let us know if you think you might need help: 575-376-2417 for details.
